Nicole is Watching Buffy
Angel 5.4: Hell Bound

Okay. This Monster of the Week was good but not awesome.

The “ghosts” were so, so so freaken creepy. Season Five is succeeding at new levels of disturbing. But the eventual payoff of Pavayne wasn’t so great. He looked kind of like a community theatre production of Jekyll and Hyde. Also, he was a poor man’s Jack the Ripper to start with, so he lacked specifically menacing cred.

Something I’ve noticed about these Monsters of the Week is that - probably in an attempt to maintain Wolfram & Hart’s moral ambiguity, their eventual “mystery solved” moments tend to be way, way more confusing and complicated. It’s not bad at all, but I do find that I get to some of these episodes and kind of go “Yeah. Whatever. I don’t totally understand but I just accept it.”

Of the last four episodes two have been a little more Spike-centric than I wish they were. I want to see more from the Angel, Inc regulars. Not you, Fred.
